How do people make a flower or an item in a picture colored when the whole picture is black and white?

like the color is completely black and white but theres a flower in someones hair and its completely in color. what program do they use.

How do people make a flower or an item in a picture colored when the whole picture is black and white?
Can we say Photoshop (looks at previous answers - yes we can).

yeh - that is the best way. However - there is a HUGE factor each person forgot. The steps below assume that you are starting with a colored image (which if you are using digital - you should ALWAYS shoot color then convert to B%26amp;W)

1. Open image

2. Duplicate Background Layer (CTRL + J)

3. Desaturate Layer 1 (CTRL + U)

4. Adjust Levels of Layer 1 (CTRL + L) to get a better black and white

5. (this si teh step everyone forgot) ERASE the subject that you want to be colored. Erase this on Layer 1 so that the color from the Background Layer shows through

6. Flatten Image

7. Save Image As
Reply:you might want to try adobe photoshop or painshop pro or any photo editing software.

first you have to select the graphic that you want colored, copy and paste it as a new layer (might be tricky if the image you want colored is intricate), then go to the background layer and desaturate it.

good luck!
Reply:This is called Selective Color.

Try these step-by-step tutorials, for both Photoshop and GIMP:

http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/cp/olympus/...

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pseleme...

http://www.tipclique.com/tutorial/photos...
Reply:you need a photo editing/compositing software such as Adobe Photoshop CS. It's easily done by creating two layers of the same image, then modify one to be black and white and the other to have the focused object only in color. :-)

Good luck!
Reply:Select the area you want to color with a tool in Photoshops toolbox(Photoshop Elements is the best software buy for the money) You can colorize using opacity ranging from 1-100%, that way it doesn't look contrived.

Remember, there is no substitute for practicing.

I need to find pictures for a Renaissance wedding, father of bride, flower girl, ring bearer?

This will be next Feb. in NY. I will be making the outfits, so I will eventually need to find patterns too.

check eBay for wedding costume ideas

and a flowing wig
Reply:The best place to check out is http://www.midnightgarden.com/wedding/bo... which is a Medieval/Renaissance wedding community. There are tons of pics of weddings to browse through.

You can find patterns in the costume section of the pattern books.
Reply:Maybe this will help: http://harjana.homestead.com/fantasywedd...

Just type "Renaissance Wedding" into the search engine and browse what is there. You could also talked to local photographers and ask if they've ever photographed a Renaissance themed wedding before. I'm sure they'd be delighted to share the photos with you.
Reply:ok, i'm not sure what you need for pictures, but if you need ideas, buy the Renaissance magazine wedding issues. they have tons of renaissance pictures, ideas, etc for weddings!! the bak issues site is here: http://www.renaissancemagazine.com/backi... also, look in Simplicity, Mccalls (my favorite, and has best patterns in my opinion) and Butterick's costume sections, especially aorund halloween. they all have patterns, and for the most part, they are really good. check out this book Medieval Celebrations for more ideas. to find ideas for clothes do a google image search for medieval wedding gowns. most pages that have dresses, also hae groomswear, and young childrens. my favorites are www.verymerryseamstress.com and fashionsintime.com. go to your local renaissance faire this summer....oh, you're from NY? go to the sterling festival!!!! it's great!! check out all of the vendors there, take pictures, etc! it will be a great source of inspiration!! (trust me, i've gone every year for the past 8 years, and i love it!! i've gone in costume the past 3 summers!) just do a lot of research. email me and i'll send you some more of my massive horde of links if you'd like!
Reply:i dont know which country you're in, but why dont you try Brides magazine that has allll the info u need on outfits, etc etc. in the uk.i used that mag, its great!
Reply:I would try JoAnne Fabrics, Michael's or AC More for designs...

For sites that just have other ideas with pictures:

And, Yeah, EBay has a ton of Renaissance cloths available...

Good luck! Sounds like a fun idea. Best wishes with your wedding!

Does anyone know of a website/book/whatever that has pictures of plants and flowers?

I'm looking for some kind of reference material with color photos of plants and flowers to get ideas for landscaping my yard. It would also be helpful if it had garden info for the plants. I live in southern Indiana, so it could be specific for this region (or not...I'm not really worried as much about that).

Well... Go to google and search for places that have whatever you want
Reply:you can google your questions or go to your local greenhouse or botanist and ask them what would be ideal.

What's with Kimimaro (from Naruto) and the flower that he is always holding?

My friend wanted to know why he was always holding or trying to pick a white flower in pictures that she sees of him? Anyone have any ideas why?

What's with Kimimaro (from Naruto) and the flower that he is always holding?
Because when Kimimaro was young and wandering around after his clan died, he found a white flower. That's when he first met Orochimaru. Kimimaro obviously likes Orochimaru so the flower has a sentimental value to him.
Reply:When showing his childhood in the anime, he finds a white flower when he meets Orochimaru. That was an important time for him so I guess it's special... ^_^
Reply:thats just a part of when he was little

I don't know the name of this flower?

my mother loves this flower bouquet she bought at the grocery store a week ago,

she liked it so much that she got another bouquet today.

she doesn't know what the name of the flower is, however.

they come in different shades of purple and they're in clusters,

somewhat like a hollyhock or a snap dragon,

and they are very fragrant.

i tried to find a picture of the flower of the internet but couldn't find any.

if you understand what flower i'm talking about,

please help♥

I don't know the name of this flower?
A lupin, or a delphinium ?

But I think it is a linaria, they look like mini snapdragons. See Link

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
Reply:I think we "all" need to receive 10 points for this mixup! Wow! Report It

Reply:try delphinium
Reply:Based on your description, the key characteristic is the fragrance. There are several spike type flowers in the blue-lavender pallet but the only one common in the florist trade that has fragrance is the hyacinth (also comes in other colors like pink and white). Delphinium (or larkspur) can also have a nice smell but is closer to a true blue than lavender. Most of the the other cuts like gladiolus do not smell like the garden varieties. Hyacinths typically have a stocky, fleshy stem as opposed to a thin, hard stem so that might also be another identifier. If you find that the flowers are hyacinths, they are easy to grow indoors from bulbs. Lots of garden centers carry them, especially around the winter holidays. The flowers last a long time and it would make a nice gift for your mom. Did you happen to ask the florist (or the flower buyer, usually someone in the produce department) at the grocery? I'm sure they could tell you what it is.
Reply:is what your looking for perhaps Hyacinths??

heres a pic:

http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/03/...
Reply:Lupins?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin
Reply:what mother bought is probably freesia if it is very fragrant all the so called florists on this site should know you can't get hyacinths this time of year and if you do they're being imported from france and you can bet they're not being sold at waa-waa anyway larkspur is in season now and delphinium neither gives off a heavy fragrance though ask the clerk at the floral dept.
Reply:Your bouquet sounds like it may be the "freesia". It is very very sweet smelling and fragrant and is used by many florist shops.. It is native to Africa and is in the "Iris" family and resembles a mini version of the gladiola. Here is a link for you to compare too.

Can you identify this plant from its flower? It is a creeper of some sort.?

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/3160/...

The link should be a picture of the flower. It is a climbing plant that grows like a weed in south Texas. The picture of the flower on the ground was all I could get before the camera batteries died or I'd have the flower on the actual plant with the leaves to help identify it.

It also apears to really like lightbulbs that are not the kind that are made for plants because it is growing up through the walls and into the house.

Can you identify this plant from its flower? It is a creeper of some sort.?
it is a desert creeping purple fashion low ground cover..

Can anyone look at these pictures and help me figure out what type of flowering plant this is?

I have a medium sized plant growing in the space that I plan on putting a flower bed...I thought at first it was just a weed but now it's started to flower, so I'm thinking there is a plant, flower, or bush of some type under the weed that has grown up the middle. Can anyone look at these pictures of the plant and flowers and see if they can figure out what type it is. I'd like to salvage it if it's not a weed. It is called a Dwarf Pink Lady Azalea.

This bush will not get bigger then 2 ft tall. Its is to its full maturity from what i can see. They are easy to transplant. If you remove them they will not come back from roots left in the ground.

They love full sun and dry soil.

Hope this helped

Can more than one flower grow on a Sunflower plant?

I'm trying to grow some and it looks like there's a lot of buds, but I've only seen pictures of plants with one flower on top.

Can more than one flower grow on a Sunflower plant?
Yes one often gets more than one flower. It depends on the variety. The more flowers, the more seeds and most varieties are grown for seed. You can pick the smaller buds off as they develop, if you wish.
Reply:There are different varieties and some have multiple flowers. I have had multi-head ones grow from birdseed that sprouted.
Reply:nope
Reply:They only have one flower at a time. i believe, though, that if the first one dies, or is cut off before it seeds, one of the other "dormant" buds will produce a new flower until one makes it to seed.
Reply:Yes! I have some in my garden right now. I can post some pics on my 360 blog once they bloom.

possibly eBay, search "parent trap movie prop" or w.e

or, if you have the capability, put the DVD in your laptop,

play the part where the flowers are, press pause, then press "print screen" (on the keyboard)

open Paint, or another picture editing software, Paste, Save,

and there you have it.
Reply:It may be out there but the odds seem low. If you want a picture fast you can put the dvd in a pc with a dvd drive and take a snapshot from there. Most software lets you and if not then pause it and hit the print screen button and paste it into paint or similar program and save it.

Can I grow a Passion Flower in Ontario, zone 5? Will it last through winter?
Canadian zone 5 is pretty cold in the winter and the passion flower is a tropical.

If I were you I'd give it a try. If palm trees can survive in Canada why not a passion flower.

Try this, BEFORE the first frost purchase 1 or 2 bales of STRAW not hay. Be ready to pile it some what loose and high around the plants. Make sure it is about the size of a round wash tub(galvanized) put some netting around it to hold it in place. Don't remove until all danger of spring frost has passed. You won't be loosing a whole lot of money if it doesn't survive and if it does you'll know how to keep it.

I once brought a start of pampas grass from Alabama to Missouri the weather was -15 degrees wind chill. That is when I planted it. I put root hormone on it and watered it with WARM water and quickly put 1 full bale of straw around it (loose and piled way out and up). It survived. I was quite pleased .

Good Luck! Maybe some day you can post it on Y!A and let us know if it survived.

Reply:Just where is zone 5??
Reply:Sorry, they will not. But plant them as an annual. I live in the southern united states and they are semi perennial at best.

They are bad to the bone though are they not?

The blossom is entirely edible and has a calming effect.
Reply:If you are talking about Ontario, OR, I have never heard of a passion flower overwintering here. Check the tag and see what zones are listed. But, I believe they are zone 7 or 8 if you do live in Ontario, OR I would suggest you go to Andrew's Nursery and ask them. Susan and Mike are very knowledgeable about plants that grow in our area.
Reply:i'd go for it. some are rated up to zone 6-9, but in a protected spot you might get lucky. mine came back in zone 5 after one winter. but the next winter did it in.

it's worth planting even if you get only one season out of it.

they are vigorous growers and as you know, the flowers are incredible!

Jasmine Flower Picture?

I need a picture of a Jasmine flower, one that's close up and is on a stone wall, and has dew on it. I don't know where to find one, so if someone could help that would be just wonderful.

That's quite a detailed request. You'd almost have an easier time taking the picture yourself.

Can I use my wide angle with macro conversion lens to take close up photo of a flower?

I have a Nikon D40 and I have a telephoto lens to 200 mm , I bought a digital vision wide angle lens with macro. How do i achieve a clear picture of a flower with a blurry background. Do i also need a filter?

Can I use my wide angle with macro conversion lens to take close up photo of a flower?
Well a 200mm is not a wide angle lens.

Use the macro conversion lens (+1, +2 and +3 diopters)?

Just shoot wide open, there will be very little background in focus.

I looked for a digital vision wide angle with macro and did not find one, can you give us a link?

Shooting that close up usually requires a normal to slightly telephoto lens so don't bump into the subject with your lens hood.

What is this flower? (picture included)?

Here is a link here, http://s203.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/... , its a bit blurry, and the flower is kinda wilted. I was cutting grass at this guys house and he had these pinkish white flowers all along his fence. I asked if I could have some and he said I could take them all, since he thought they were weeds. They smell really sweet, and I planted some of them today, I'll get the rest a different day. They will probably do great by next year. They almost look like apple blossoms, what are they? Thanks

What is this flower? (picture included)?
As other posters suggested, they may be pink phlox. Look at these photos:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mason2008/1...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/piratejohnn...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sisudave/36...

Phlox are usually about waist-high, very fragrant (hummingbirds and butterflies love them), and like part to full sun. They will spread if you put them in fertile soil.

If these are pink phlox, you are lucky! I only have white and purple.
Reply:The pictures is blurry hard to really see it good. I would guess Phlox though.
Reply:maybe phlox of some kind....

Will I look wierd if I wear a big flower clip in my hair for picture day?

For picture day, would I look wierd if I wore a big flower clip in my hair. Like how people sometimes stick flowers behind their ear, but a little further back on my head?

Should I go with the hairstyle without a noticable clip?

Will I look wierd if I wear a big flower clip in my hair for picture day?
i think the flower clip will really "date" your photo.

try something my classic looking, and i'm sure by the end of the year you'll still be very happy with your photo.
Reply:Depends, if YOU like it. If other people don't like it, then it's they're problem. I say, Go for it!
Reply:just wear it away from your face if it's a bigger one. if it's a small one, wear it closer to your face.
Reply:a flower would be cute! totally Jasmine Trias style off Season 3 of American Idol! =)
Reply:it depends what the rest of your outfit looks like. like if your wearing something that matches it
Reply:yes. yes you will.
Reply:Dont put a flower clip please. I've tried it. It looks silly. Especially if it's big...
Reply:I think it would look really cute!Like a big red flower clip and red lipstick to match. It all depends on how old you are on how heavy your lipstick is.I will tell you,the flower will make you look classic like from the 40's and 50's,but I think that it would be a "classic beauty" look. You'll look pretty, don't worry, just smile!
Reply:Do what makes you happy. Live with the pictures happily.

Keep smiling!
Reply:nah
Reply:hahah please dont wear the flower clip for your sake! jsut starighten your hair or out it in the tyle where you oull some up into a small tail and then let the rest of your hair be down, beautifully. or crimp it, (like paula does in 'the real world: key west')
Reply:NO THAT WOULD BE CUTE AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE PROPPER MAKE-UP AND HAIR TO GO WITH IT
Reply:yes it will look really silly especially if you wear that bathing suit.
Reply:if you like flowers, wear them. They are part of your personality and your personality should show in the picture. It won't look weird...it probably won't show that much if the clip is on the back of your head, anyway. (I have a friend who wears flowers a lot, and I like it when she wears them in pictures because that's the way I remember her... I remember her as Ashton who wears flowers in her hair.)

Looking for a web site that has names and pictures of flowers and plants and how to care for them?

Try marthastewart.com -- she's got a whole plants %26amp; flowers encyclopedia that you can search. Really helpful and has lots of pictures!

Looking for a web site that has names and pictures of flowers and plants and how to care for them?
Royal horticultural society web site. It cost £40 pounds to become a member and get into the really detailed stuff but some good info can be obtained for free if the questions are not to difficult. They change the topics every month. There is a calender of job to be done and various plants of the month to give you some idea for gifts for the Gardener. I use it all the time.RHS have a photography comp on at the moment, have a go you never know and it will give you the incentive to look at the plants.

Isn't that beautiful! I have seen this before, though I can't recall where. Is this flower near you? Where are you? Ask your local extension office - agriculture agent - take it to a high school or college, and talk to someone from botany department.
Reply:Differently frangipani

Reply:Looks like a Plumeria
Reply:Frangipani, also called temple tree or Plumeria. Grows all over tropical Asia.

This is the pink variety. Also comes in White and Dark Pink. I have seen them in a peachy orange as well. All have yellow centers and 5 petals. Very easy to propagate, cut and stick into the ground. Wonderful fragrance.

How can I Delete stock pictures on a Motorola razr V3?

I have a Motorola razr V3 (verizon) which has about 25 stock pictures (sunset, flowers, etc) that I can not delete (?), they seem to be lock or something because when you press the option to "deleted them all" it says "sorry some of your pictures can not be delete"...anybody knows how to get rid of them? thanks

How can I Delete stock pictures on a Motorola razr V3?
There is NO way to delete them . The only people who can do that is the company and they dont. They do that so if the phone gets messed up and you send it in for an exchange, all they have to do is delete YOUR purchased ringtones and the phone will still have their stuff on it

Is the Canon SX100 IS good at taking close up pictures?

I checked out the Canon SX100 IS in the store and it looks pretty cool and it’s in my price range. The only thing that bothers me is I’m not sure how well it’ll take close up pictures and getting pictures of flowers is important to me. I read that it has a macro range of 1 cm. Is this good?

Is the Canon SX100 IS good at taking close up pictures?
Macro range of 1 cm means it can focus as close as 1 cm in Macro mode, so it is pretty good.
Reply:if you want to get a camera that is within your price range...try to compare it with other cameras so that you know which one is better. don't just buy it and then next thing you know it will only break or you might regret it.
Reply:If focusing to 1 cm is good enough for you (notice they don't tell you the macro ratio ((1:1 or 1:2), just a distance).

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_...

For true macro work (like scientific and field research, document copying and other technical macro work) a Nikon or Canon DSLR and a macro lens in the 55mm, 60mm or 100mm focal length would be a better choice.
Reply:Thats excellent macro.
Reply:Just to let you know...I brought this camera home this week and was very disappointed with the delay in shooting (7-12 seconds in between shots when using the flash - the camera kind of freezes up, so even if you dont want to use the flash for your next shot, you still have to wait). Needless to say, it's going back. However, I must say that the zoom was incredible - just depends on what you're looking for.

Can you please tell me good websites to download free pictures (flowers, nature, animals)?
morguefile is great. Google images are not really free if you download them, your basically stealing from the original photographer - unless you contact them for permission! :)
Reply:sxc.hu. It's a free stock photo site. I just uploaded some new animals and flowers that I took recently. There are a lot of great shots to choose from.

What is a red and yellow flower that grows in Arizona?

I was in Phoenix a month or so ago and noticed these great bushes near my hotel and on the sides of the road. They had these crazy yellow and red blossoms. The yellow part was more flowery, and inside was a bunch of red...another set of petal-type leaves and some other stuff. They were medium sized bushes, and the green foliage on the bushes had little elongated teardrop-shaped leaves. There were also some little round balls on the end of some stems, but I don't know if those were the precursor to the flowers. I have pictures of them and would love to know what they are. Anyone know?
