What is the national flower of Belgium ? Why was it chosen?
The distel a protected wild flower and lelietje van dalen(muguet in french) lily of the valley in English.

And that Poppy, yes but that counts also for the UK not only for Belgium!

Reply:Well as far as Belgium is concerned, there is no national flower, although Belgium is a country of thousand kinds of flowers both wild and cultured. And as to the poppie's story: an English poem (however beautiful) is one thing, but to ascend the poppy to our national symbol is another.

If you want to know more about flowers (real not heraldic) in Belgium google "floralien" and see what pops up.
Reply:Red Poppy "Papaverrhoeas" and the Begonia Rex Hybrid "Filigree"hope this helps you have a great afternoon
Reply:There is no national flower.

The poppy only relates to WWI, not to Belgium.

Not even the states of Belgium have a regional or national flower.
Reply:The national flower is the red poppy. The reason why is that in World War one between the German %26amp; Allied armies there were strips of land (Flanders, Belgium) known as "No Mans Land" and the only thing that was able to survive on this land was the poppy (Link in Dutch -%26gt; http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfront_(...

Picture - well you can get this anywhere, but here is a link --%26gt; http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl...
Reply:I'm sorry, we don't have a national flower...
